Marina Hernandez joined White Lighthouse Investment Management as a Cross-Border Wealth Manager in 2014. She is a CFP® professional and a federally licensed Enrolled Agent, allowing her to represent taxpayers before the IRS. Marina earned her degree in Accounting from the Catholic University of Argentina, where she finished first in her class. She later attended the University of Georgia on a full merit scholarship where she graduated co-valedictorian with an MBA in Corporate Finance.

Marina started her career in Buenos Aires working for multinational corporations including Pilkington PLC and the Coca-Cola Company. After moving to London with her American husband and young children, she became aware of the unique tax and financial burdens faced by Americans living abroad. Upon returning to the United States, she founded a cross-border tax planning firm to help U.S. expat families work through these challenges.

After meeting Marina through the Financial Planning Association, Jonathan Lachowitz invited her to join White Lighthouse in 2014. Here, she’s had the opportunity to expand her focus beyond tax planning to other areas of financial wellbeing such as cross-border estate and small business planning. When Jeff Haindl joined the firm, Marina and Jeff decided to combine their complementary skills and diverse backgrounds to work as a team in order to best serve their clients.

Having experienced firsthand the transformative power of the access to education, Marina and her family actively support educational initiatives for under-privileged children in both the U.S. and South America. These include CEV, a Bolivian school run by A Breeze of Hope Foundation, a Philadelphia charity, and needs-based scholarships at the Universities of Tennessee and Georgia. She also enjoys teaching International Tax to Enrolled Agents, CPAs, CFPs, and other professionals through Tax Practice Pro and sharing her expertise in tax professional forums. In 2016, The National Association of Accountants recognized Marina as their Tax Talker of the Year for these contributions.

Marina currently lives in the greater Philadelphia area with her husband and three sons. She travels regularly throughout the USA and Switzerland to meet with clients and to speak at conferences where she makes connections with professionals in the cross-border tax and financial services fields.

John has been a Financial Planner and CFP® professional with White Lighthouse Investment Management since 2016.  John’s first experience in finance was on Wall Street where he worked as a Financial Analyst after graduating from Cornell University with a BA in Economics.  After several years in New York, John went back to school and earned an MBA from Harvard University.

Following his MBA, John began his international business career with General Mills.  He spent nearly 30 years helping to build the General Mills/Nestlé international Cereal business.  Based mainly in Switzerland, John was a Senior Executive responsible for a $450 million business spread across more than 30 countries in Asia, Australia, Europe, and Africa.  This career gave John firsthand experience to many of the challenges Americans face trying to put their cross border financial life in order.

John’s wife, Elisa, is a non-US citizen and as a result, added more cross border complexity to their family finances.  Unhappy with the poor performance and service from his local bankers and accountants, John became a client of White Lighthouse whose expertise in cross border financial planning was a good match for the family’s needs. White Lighthouse not only addressed many issues, but helped John and Elisa prepare for their next adventure: A sabbatical year traveling around the world with their two daughters.  One amazing year of Adventure, Discovery, and Family Bonding.

Upon returning from his sabbatical, John decided to not rejoin the bureaucratic world of a big corporation.  Instead, John took early retirement from General Mills and joined White Lighthouse as a cross border Certified Financial Planner® professional.

John has come full circle from his early days on Wall Street, back to finance with White Lighthouse. “I joined White Lighthouse because I get great satisfaction out of being a partner with my clients and bringing clarity to the complex financial challenges they face. The end result is “Peace of Mind” because the client has a clear financial road map and an unbiased partner to help them navigate and build their wealth.”

Jeff Haindl joined White Lighthouse Investment Management as a Cross-Border Wealth Manager in April 2018. He is a CFP® professional and a CFA charterholder.

Jeff majored in economics (lic. oec. publ.) at the university of Zurich with a focus on environmental and political economics and on understanding how ‘rational’ behavior of individuals could lead to socially, environmentally and institutionally undesirable outcomes. Before and during his studies, Jeff worked at IBM and later at the trading pits of the Swiss Stock Exchange, which allowed him to travel extensively in Latin America during the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Born in the US but raised in Switzerland, Jeff always had the desire to live and work in the United States.  He joined Julius Baer in their alternative investment management area after his studies, which allowed him to relocate to New York in early 2001. He later moved on to American Express Financial Advisors and Standard Chartered Bank, where he was ultimately in charge of the firm’s fund of hedge fund business.

In New York, Jeff also met his wife Tanya. After their first daughter was born, they decided to trade the excitement of New York for the nature and beauty of Switzerland and finally relocated to Switzerland in 2010.  In Switzerland, Jeff joined Falcon Private Bank, where he led all the bank’s investment management, advisory and investment funds business across all domestic and international locations. He also was the chairman of the board of directors of the firm’s fund management entity in Luxembourg and served on the board of directors of the firm’s subsidiary in Dubai.

Having experienced the conflicts of interests in the financial industry firsthand, Jeff was always drawn to the concept of holistic, independent and fee only. In fact, Jeff became a client of White Lighthouse in 2010 and Jonathan and Jeff have been talking about Jeff joining the firm ever since. In 2018, Jeff finally joined White Lighthouse where Marina and Jeff, with their different backgrounds and complementary skills, decided to work as a team in order to best serve their clients.
